Short Walks from Bogotá by Tom Feiling

Colombia is a much more complex country than the one depicted in the acclaimed Netflix series Narcos. Pablo Escobar and the Medellin drug cartel have created a reputation for Colombia that only rhymes with cocaine and insecurity. But Colombia is now reclaiming its economic and cultural position. Short Walks from Bogota takes the reader through the history of this ever-changing country and tries to unravel the true facts behind an often too simplistic fascination with this country.

This idea for this book was inspired by Alvaro Uribe’s statement saying that Colombia “has moved from terrorism to tourism”.

Tom Feiling traveled through Colombia for years and managed to interview and discuss with many locals, from ex-Farc to Indigenous people or millionnaires.

Looking at the deep political questions around the many conflicts that remain in the country, Short Walks from Bogota is a mix of travel writing and reporter work that will enlighten your perception of Colombia.
